Defender nation farewell note!
Defenders - it is my honor to have this opportunity to say THANK YOU for your Leadership and Sacrifice over the last three plus years. I have been honored to serve Defender Nation as the Director. What I will remember most about this opportunity is the tenacity from the field to continue to work hard and ensure our Defenders are trained and proficient at the skills needed to protect our families, resources, mission and each other!
Although the time has flown by, I had the opportunity to visit many units and staffs and meet the faces behind the positions that truly make our Career Field great. Every unit has a unique mission...and an internal culture that ensures our Defenders are well taken care of. Many thanks to the Command teams across the career field! Your leadership does not go unnoticed, as you ensure 43K Total Force Defenders remain OUR focus. |
Over the last three years, we made substantial progress for the career field. Thank you to the Defenders who championed key initiatives and focused on our primary mission of Air Base Ground Defense.
Together, we made tremendous progress toward Air Base Ground Defense, female defender retention & progression, physical fitness, Integrated Case Management, Cyber Security, Weapons & Tactics, Law Enforcement and much more. My heart remains with those Defender on the frontline that you lead...whom stand post all around the world and in all-weather conditions to ensure Mission Success! We are very fortunate to have great SF COMMAND Teams, like YOU...on the frontline leading the Total Force and those that have come before us! I wish you ALL the very best in your Command "TEAM" tours! Always remember we EARN our Badge and Beret every day...wishing you ALL the Best! Stay Safe! Scholarships
The Colonel Gary Allison Scholarship was established in the memory of Colonel (Ret) Gary Allison, a 27 year-veteran, Air Police and Security Police Officer, often referred to as "trash mouth" Allison, as he often spoke what he felt. Gary was a founding member of the Chapter and helped shape the Chapter as it is today. Gary felt strongly about the career field and the importance of caring for our Defenders, always stressing the importance of education.

The CMSgt (Ret) Wayne and Cathy Cox Scholarship was established in 2022 in honor of CMSgt (Ret) Wayne Cox for his dedication to the career field. Chief Cox served as the 10th Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Air Force Chief of Security Police and the Chief Enlisted Manager. Cathy has been volunteering every step of the way alongside Wayne. Thank you both for all you do for our Defenders!

![]() The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) is a United States federal law, enacted in 2004, that allows two classes of persons - the "qualified law enforcement officer" and the "qualified retired or separated law enforcement officer" - to carry a concealed firearm in any jurisdiction in the United States or United States Territories, regardless of state or local laws, with certain exceptions. If a person meets the criteria, "notwithstanding any provisions of the law of any state or any political subdivision thereof" he or she may carry a concealed firearm in that state or political subdivision. An individual who qualifies under LEOSA does not require a state-issued permit to carry a concealed firearm.
Chief's Corner...![]() Welcome to another addition of "Chief's Corner". I want to thank each and everyone of you for making our Chapter an outstanding place to belong. Your Chapter members are working hard each and every day to ensure that you are taken care of. Sometimes more visiable than others. We suport both the 136th Security Forces Squadron and the 301st Security Forces Squadron.
I wanted to take a brief moment and remind you about safety. I know, I know, for years everytime you turned around someone was briefing you on safety. At guardmounts, commander's calls and the like. Well let's be honest, we truly took those briefings to heart and remembering what was said prevented us from an unsafe weapons discharge, or vehicle accident. None of us are getting any younger and we probably aren't recieving safety briefings anymore...lol. But Please slow down and be safe! I say this as I'm building a lower deck for my above ground pool. My grown daughters want a bar on the side of the pool (me too). Well I had the deck all framed out with 2x6 pressure treated boards and was getting ready to lay the deck boards down. So hears were safety comes in. I knew I was not going to be able to get much done over the weekend as I was going to Bossier City, Lousianna to attend Brig Gen Alan Rock's retirement ceremony. Friday after work, I thought, I could get a great portion of the deck boards down and I started rushing. I was walking across the top the the 2x6s when all of a sudden I twisted my left ankle. As I slide off the 2x6 framing, I landed on my right ankle and broke both bones in my right leg and needed plates and screws to put it all back together along with screws in the ankle bones. Not to say that this wouldn't have happened anyway, but had I slowed down or even put it off another weekend, chances are pretty good that I would not have been in such a rush and would have probably been more observant. Well that's my safety briefing for you all! LOL Please let me know if there are any other ways you wish for me to connect with you, in addition to the website, Facebook page (AFSFA Billie Renfroe Chapter) and App (Billie Renfroe Chapter) which is available on both Apple and Android. Thanks for your continued support, we could not make any of this happen without you! Sincerely, Chief Ferguson PTSD -- Talk to someoneCMSgt (Ret) Terry Ferguson guest speaker at the SF GraduationDon Graves - World War II Hero and Iwo Jima Survivor - Guest SpeakerWhat an amazing story. Don Graves told us how a young man who barely weighed 100 lbs was assigned a 70 lb flame thrower and told to root out the Japanese. After sever days of fierce battle and in the midst of all the horrific tragedy going on around him, Don made an awesome commitment to God, how he would later fulfill as a preacher. Don made it to the top of Mount Suribachi and witness not only one American Flag flown that day, but the second flag which is the more famous flag and now depicted in the Marine Corp Memorial.
